The Best Hawaiʻi Honeymoon Hotels

Hawaiʻi has very few adults-only hotels, but many resorts have adults-only pools and quiet corners. These are our picks on each island, from adults-only suites to remote bungalows.

The Short Answer

Our top pick for a honeymoon is Hotel Wailea on Maui, which takes only guests 18 and over and has one-bedroom suites on a quiet hillside above Wailea. Few Hawaiʻi hotels are adults only, so most couples choose a resort with an adults-only pool, such as the Four Seasons resorts on Maui, Lānaʻi and the Big Island.

Pair Maui with a few nights on Lānaʻi (by ferry from Māʻalaea) or with Kauaʻi's north shore, and add a night in Hāna for the drive. For a change from the beach resorts, a night or two at Kilauea Lodge near the volcano is cozy and quiet.

The Best Honeymoon Combinations

  • Maui and Lānaʻi: 5 nights in Wailea and 2–3 at Four Seasons Resort Lanai, reached by ferry from Māʻalaea Harbor or a 25-minute flight from Honolulu.
  • Oʻahu and Kauaʻi: 3 nights at Halekulani in Waikīkī, then 5 on Kauaʻi in Princeville or Poʻipū.
  • Maui and the Big Island: beaches in Wailea, then the lava coast at Kona or the Kohala Coast, and a night near the volcano.

Hotel Wailea takes only guests 18 and over.

Planning Tips

  • Budget for fees. Most luxury resorts add a daily resort fee and charge for parking; Halekulani and the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel say they charge no resort fee.
  • Book the big reservations early. Haleakalā sunrise reservations open up to 60 days ahead, and Hāʻena State Park reservations 30 days ahead.
  • Pick your season. Humpback whales are here from about November to April. The leeward resort coasts (Wailea, Kona, the Kohala Coast and Poʻipū) are the driest parts of the islands all year.
  • Keep the plan simple. Two bases in a week, or three in ten days, leave more time for the beach than for airports.
